A now fourth generation independent agency, LeGalley Insurance was founded 80 years ago in 1935. Doug LeGalley, the current owner and third generation indicates that his grandfather, Ray LeGalley started the company while Doug's father, Floyd who farmed 80 acres on Haskins Road which has been in the LeGalley family for 158 years, mixing farming with their insurance-agency activities.
With nearly 20 years of active service to the Grange, a farm-oriented organization, including election to deputy state (Ohio) master, grandfather Ray LeGalley became a director and field representative in 1933 for the new Black Swamp Production Credit Association, a cooperative credit system for farmers, offering reasonable rates of interest for farm related loans. Then in 1935 the Grange started its insurance business, and LeGalley became a licensed agent for the new Grange Mutual Insurance Co. which served Ohio and some neighboring states.
Still an active farmer, he set up an office in his home on Bishop Road. Next door to Ray LeGalley lived his son, Floyd, who also set up an independent insurance agent's office in his home in 1949. In 1965, the two agents decided to merge, and they built an office at the corner of Haskins and Bishop Roads, setting the stage for the entrance of Douglas LeGalley, the third generation LeGalley in the Bowling Green insurance business.
In 1985, Doug LeGalley moved the agency to 412 East Wooster Street where it presently operates. Now he runs a "full-line independent insurance agency, specializing in auto, home, farm, business, and life insurance".
Doug's wife, Toni, is also a licensed agent and is active in the business which she joined in 1985 when the agency moved to its East Wooster Street location. Doug's mother, Anna Laura LeGalley, was also active in the agency with his father, Floyd, in the office on Bishop Road.
The fourth generation in the family business has recently joined the agency. Doug and Toni's daughter, Megan, has recently graduated from Bowling Green State University and has begun her career as an insurance professional.
